Rick Chew was born in San Francisco, California. While growing up in Albany, California, his father’s position with the Social Security Administration led to several moves including Hawaii, Guam and Maryland.
After graduating from Albany High School, Rick joined the Army and served for three years in West Germany as a Supplyman and Armorer. Leaving the Army, Rick exchanged his fatigues for a suit and tie in San Francisco’s financial district where he worked in secretarial positions for eight years.
For three years, he applied to various fire departments and in 1989, he was accepted into the Oakland Fire Department. During his tenure with OFD, he spent twelve years as a Firefighter, three years as a Lieutenant, and thirteen years as a Captain, finishing his career at a downtown ladder company.
Rick has two children and four stepsons. He met his wife Marjoline in 2018. They live in American Canyon, California and have plans to eventually move to the Philippines. Rick and Marjoline enjoy singing karaoke in their free time.
